Our Story

LaPorte Signal Weather was founded in 2024 with a simple yet crucial mission: to provide LaPorte County residents with hyper-local, timely, and accurate weather information that large media markets often overlook.

Located between the Chicago and South Bend television markets, LaPorte County residents have historically received weather reports that don't specifically focus on our unique geographical area. We're situated in a meteorologically complex region affected by Lake Michigan's lake effect, which creates weather patterns that require local expertise and attention.

Signal Weather was born out of necessity and passion for weather. As longtime residents of LaPorte County, we noticed our community needed more specific and timely weather alerts and forecasts. What started as social media updates has grown into a comprehensive community weather service that we're proud to provide to Hoosiers throughout our region.

Mitchell Moss

Founder & Weather Analyst

Mitchell Moss is the founder and driving force behind LaPorte Signal Weather. As a lifelong resident of LaPorte County with a passion for weather analysis and community service, he started this project to fill the information gap in our region's weather reporting.

With extensive broadcast experience, Mitchell has worked with ABC57, ESPN, and ACC affiliated companies, bringing professional media expertise to LaPorte Signal Weather. He continues to contribute his talents to LaPorte High School's sports broadcasts, maintaining strong ties with the local community.

Mitchell's background in technology and broadcast media, combined with his deep interest in weather phenomena, led to the establishment of this platform where we combine data from various professional sources with local observations to provide the most relevant and timely weather information specifically for our community.

A certified storm spotter through both the National Weather Service's SKYWARN program and the Spotter Network, Mitchell brings professional-level weather observation credentials to LaPorte Signal Weather. He works with partners and volunteers to ensure accurate, helpful information is delivered to all Hoosiers in our coverage area.

When not leading our weather monitoring efforts, Mitchell is actively engaging with community members to better understand how to serve LaPorte County's unique weather information needs.
